Kashmir is one of the few destinations in India that rewards you no matter when you visit. Each season paints the valley in a completely different mood.
Spring (March to May)
This is when the valley wakes up. Almond and cherry blossoms cover Srinagar and the famous tulip garden opens for a few weeks.
Summer (June to August)
The classic season. Days are cool and comfortable while the rest of India swelters. Best window for Ladakh too.
Autumn (September to November)
Quietly the most beautiful season. The chinar trees turn crimson and gold and the crowds thin out.
Winter (December to February)
The valley disappears under snow. Gulmarg becomes a genuine ski destination.
So when should you go?
- For flowers and mild weather: April–May
- For green meadows and Ladakh: June–August
- For fall colours and calm: September–October
- For snow and skiing: late December–February
